The down hill decent.

I read in 4wd monthly that the auto in the 3.0ltr nissan patrol could be placed in reverse while traveling forward in downhill decents and the accelerator used to pick up the slack in the torque converter to slow forward motion for short periods of time.

I wonder if anyone on here knows if the Jeep auto is capable of doing the same.
would not want to be the first to try and brake it and then try to explain to why - i was going forward in reverse i thought everything was going to be fine - the range rover hill descent control works well though.

An auto will still run away on you down a hill when in low 1. and braking can easily lock you up on slippery stuff. pushing your rear end out. which aint to fun.

i have had both auto and manual.. i must say i like manual.. and a well geared manual is a pleasure to drive. with low tranny and diff gears you have heeps of control. but.. if you are not going to mod it..go auto.. better stock offroad.

Manual... you can always put a hand throttle in to gain the benefits of auto's off road..

Why don't you look at a newer TJ engine iwth the 6speed manual?

Either than or the 6.1L Hemi ;)

i understand that , i was referring to the "put it in reverse to slow forward momentum" part.
