Hi,I glued a piece of thick foam to the door and it closes on the filler leaves a groove where the foam hits the filler. Don't think much will get past it.

@Grippy .....I looked at my Jiggler which I use for my boat, lifting a Jerry that high doesn't appeal at all..................lifting more than a 6 pack that high is way too much.

@OLMATE ......My Jerry can spout is the genuine military one, solid steel pipe with a bend in it which does open the inner flap but needs to be in the right spot, I do recall seeing ones with a flexy pipe, now they may be just the shot.

@Troutman ......Been looking for a plastic cap that would fit over the opening, no luck so far but certainly the best idea for keeping crap out if the door is open or seal fails around it....might have another dig on ebay, get some ideas.

Sorry I can't help, just being nosy - I've never seen one of these later type fuel fillers. Trying to visualize it...if anyone has a pic? Wonder why they changed it?

I have had one of the alloy caps for a good while and they work great, no dust or crap in the filler mouth and easy to use; about $25 on Ebay if I remember.
Re putting a jerry can on the roof rack and using a jiggle "pump".
I am 72 and still fit and capable for my age but I don't like the idea of lifting a full jerry can up to roof height and possible doing myself or the vehicle some damage in the process. It is bad enough holding a full jerry can high enough and long enough to empty it using a long narrow funnel that feeds reasonably slowiy into the GC.
It is rarely that I have to do this as I only carry extra jerry cans in the real back blocks and even then use them rarely. The GC with 94 litres gives a pretty good range even when towing 3 tonnes.

Here you go @SouthernComfort a couple of pics, green arrow shows the door seals around the edge to stop water/dust etc from entering while the flap at the red arrow acts as the cap and seals the inlet, there is also another flap about 40mm inside which is a restrictor if you try to put a larger nozzle in, if you can't push this one open you can't get the juice in...the blue arrow is where the drain is for spills, it comes out at the bottom of the wheel arch, a spill means it stinks for ages.............

@johnnywall At 66 I'm still fit and able, possibly because I only lifted things like jerry cans up high as a last resort...........much prefer a pump, hand or electric but certainly not a stirrup pump, hell that is painful for sure and since I'm getting lazy and hate pulling inside linings out I will more than likely rig up a 12v fuel pump to move the stuff, like you I only carry a full jerry when I'm heading into out of the way areas.... don't like to rely on places out there, no fuel or blackouts can often be the case...... a Jerry should give me 120kms towing....
If we head out to Cooper Creek I will fill up a jerry or 2 at Eromanga in case I want to do any extra running around then refuel at Thargomindah, fuel at Nocundra Pub while available would have me worried as to age and price..................... I will get a cap though.

In the interim until I can find a better idea as nothing on ebay or elsewhere that was available here I have removed the plastic surround of the fill pipe (view in pic of post above) and by chopping the end off a stubby holder have made a very well fitting cover.... most economical too as its bound to get lost at a garage and I have heaps of them......
