mate try pick and payless in blacktown.
I asked northern auto wreckers in londondery for a price on a front axel once he gave me a similarly opmistic quote.
There are som xj pages on FB could be worth an ask.
Seeing a "nothing wrong with it" D 35 go for $50 or even "just take it away " is a regular thing.
Do you have abs?

As for springs, mate they are prety straight forward. get the diff in then do the springs at yr leasure.

Guys thank you for all the responses.

I did check out the pick and pay less and fb pages. I only found one diff interstate, and with postage would of not had any savings. I had considered rebuilding with parts from rockauto, those savings in currency with loss in time held no advantage as I do need my vehicle back on the road for work. I checked out a diff specialist who advised new bearing and seals for 990 plus a new pinion at 700 on top. hhmm...

I decided to go ahead with the wreckers diff. It may seem like a ludicrous decision but I would lose more money with not working. Also I am keeping the old diff to play with it at home and learn something from it.

I met with Aaron who helped immensely. A very friendly and knowledgeable man and bought a set of sound leaf springs from him which point up instead of down which mine do. He advised these springs will give an added rear end lift.

I did see inside of my old diff this morning, the oil was in good condition, there was play in the knuckle, teeth were worn and some had small chunks missing.

Thank you to all who helped.

fairly high chance the wrecker diff will be a bit noisy, unless it has already been rebuilt

an experienced diff guy can rebuild one in a day

you do need replacement ring & pinion, so the risk has to be taken

I think a rebuild kit from Rock Auto is about $200
