I fitted new glowplugs from supercheap july 2012 35,000klm ago. Cant find the receipt but I got whatever was the cheapest around $130.00.

12 months later Autoenginuity was showing a couple faulty ones then a couple months later it showed the glow plug module faulty as well as 1-2 glow plugs.

Replaced the control module and all fault codes for glow plugs disappeared.

I replaced all of mine with Bosch hypertherm glow plugs from the UK guess what the dealer diagnostic says I still have a faulty glow plug the thing starts first kick no cranking at all did that before I replaced the original glow plugs
I have given up on fault codes it still throws a code when you accelerate hard out of a left hand turn as far as I am concerned the thing is mental all it does is ring the bell flash the throttle light and keeps the mil light on there is no difference in the car
I am going to drive it till it dies drove it last night for the first time in a couple months thing goes fantastic except for stupid lights and bells lol

Disconnect module and glow plugs, maybe even clean up a few terminals with that magic spray stuff, come back next morning plug em all back in and surprise, surprise no bells an lights, well sometimes anyway. Bosch injectors and glow plugs from the local Bosch Injector fella that way if they fail you can drop in and have a talk.

WH CRD Merc motor 3L.
Am I right in assuming the following symptoms are glow plugs? I think so, but don't want to go to the effort if its a battery and then have to buy a battery anyway.

Early morning start in Qld, so not that cold. Turn ignition on - leave until glow plug light goes out. Try and start and it doesn't. Turnover speed seems fine. Do this again and turnover speed slower. Still no start. Do again, and much slower turnover, but car starts. Blue smoke comes out of exhaust for about 2 seconds then all fine.

Getting worse every day so need to fix this weekend as I'm worried she won't start soon.

Thanks

I think you are out of luck It sounds like both to me.

Don't replace anything yet! Get the codes read first, a generic code reader will read codes for faulty glow plugs & glow plug module so any mechanic should be able to check for you.
Even my iPhone app & elcheapo eBay ELM327 Bluetooth dongle reads these codes.

Check fuel line for tiny bubbles, had those symptoms with mine once, start after a few cranks, a bit smoky, changed battery, problem got worse then found air in line, think it was an O ring but changed the lot, all good then. Too warm for the glows to really do anything I would think.
What about the next time you start when it's all warmed up ?? cause mine would run well until it sat for about 10 hrs which gradually decreased as the days went by.
