For some reason, buying a diesel scares me.. dunno if it is because when i think diesel, i think of dirty smoke blowing, loud, sluggy machines of old... with black stains up the back lol

For a footrest just go to the wreckers and get one and screw it into the carpet. Mines off an old Magna and its been there for 3 years now!

The Diesel I think is a fantastic engine with enough torque for anyone, we just got an auto diesel unlimited in which is great but being from the UK and having now driven both i think the Diesel manual is the one I'd go for. but in the three door you cant get a diesel manual, so I'd go for the Petrol Manual cos i like the sound of it!!

I am very excited about finding this car as its taken me weeks testdriving most car makers to discover the Wrangler, but I am totally bummed about the lack of a rest pedal/footrest in the manual and was wondering what other drivers thoughts are regarding the lack of space to even put the left leg when not engaging the clutch...

When I test drove the JK last weekend I couldn't stop smiling from the fun I was having, but it didn't take long before my leg starting aching and I had no where to put it. I am 6'2 and I would dearly love the manual but thought i would ask others for advice who have a greater knowledge than me, perhaps it may get better after I become used to it, or maybe I will have to buy my first auto!

Thanks in advance,
Iain
mate, i'm just over 6 ft and the most comfortable way i found was to lift the drivers seat up high and pull it forward so it's a truck driving upright seating position. knees are well bent and foot just rests comfortably on the floor. have driven trips of 800k per day for 3 or four days like that although my brain was totally dead at the end my feet and legs were fine. i also have a manual. i love driving manuals but there are issues with the manual clutches and if you have to replace the clutch and flywheel, which is a distinct possibility you are looking at a $5000 replacement cost. for that reason alone i would recommend an auto. but if you choose the auto put an aftermarket transmission cooler on it as they have a tendancy to overheat when working hard without it..cheers.

We have the two door petrol 6 speed and are very happy with it. Whilst I am not as tall as you, I too was finding my left leg aching after 20 minute drives. However, this week I have had to drive it for work, piling another 800km on it, and like above, I lifted the seat and found the left leg ache nowhere near as bad. I cant really see the point of a left foot rest though, with the width of the transmission tunnel I dont think theres really enough room. I think it would be too far to the right of the leg to be much benefit.
