I've seen a bad rubber fuel hose leak air but hold fuel. It was the culprit of the vehicle not starting unless the system was pressurised. I'd be inclined to replace the rubber hoses on the inlet to the fuel filter if you reckon all of the orings and other hoses are good.

Bloody thing has started the last 2 mornings without pressurising the tank. Got me stuffed.:rolleyescheers Phil

My folks had a 1999 WG from new that had that problem - there was a known issue with the fuel pumps where they wouldn’t hold pressure in the fuel line when the vehicle sat for a long period. No risk of breakdown, just meant it had to crank for a while before it’d fire. They replaced the fuel pump under warranty and it was good for the next ten years.

Was that the pump on the front of the head?

Seeing that problem was about the 1999 model, I doubt it's the CRD, as for all I know the CRD was only introduced in 2002.
