98 up has a different speed sensor and has 2 of them.
cable is just the firmness of the gear change.

agreed one would need to rig a TPS for my application, the speed sensor is within trans, cable must be connected etc etc, many mechanical complications, but mostly already overcome. So what I am hoping is the TCM does the job on its own. This functionality is available from several aftermarket systems, but would prefer to use Jeep stuff, which keeps it on track for this forum, (although the vehicle is a Jaguar 420G), costs 10k+ to get a 4sp auto in one otherwise

as a non-average non-dumbass, is your opinion nay or yay on whether TCM can control the trans without a PCM?

b4 i forget, found stacks of info on the topic on these threads

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24701

http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthrea...&highlight=AW4

some points;

*A340/AW4 output shafts, tailhousings & torque convertors can mix & match (which I need)

*91-96 have TCM electronics that are easy to take control of

* later/other models can work, but want to throw a Warning light (cause they have more integration with ECU)

All that is for another project for the benefit of future seekers.

In the case of XJs, when I get around to it, like to add a "hold 1st gear" function for all ranges, not just 4LO
