Just done a dimension check what can fit and a tank around
1100mm X 800MM X 450MM will give 396 ltrs ...might take it down to 400 high.
300 ltrs should do us.

We caravan bush camping, and 4 of us will use about 300 ltrs of water with two very careful showers ea over 7-8 days.
We want to feel a little more humane ...like washing our hair and having a shower every 2nd day....not those hospital sponge off washes with a litre of water.

Overloading, Maybe only put a 100 - 200 ltrs from home and top up or fill the tank up at the last city before camp so we only overload 150kg on the last 50 klm.
Or when we go Town to restock food we can bring back 7-9 days of water....no overloading.
Electric pump from the Jeep to the Caravans 140 ltr water holding tanks...half gone from the Jeep.

Last trip over the weighbridge fully loaded inc ball weight caravan, tinnie on roof we were 2600kg, with 60 ltrs extra water so another 100 -200kg it can handle....Has been upgraded Monroe load assist rear shocks and Heavy duty springs ...40,000klm ago.

Tare is 2,140kg dry weight new car with nothing in it or on it and GVM is 2,750 so there's 610kg left, add what you have added to the Grand (bullbar, racks and stuff) plus your weight and any passengers plus ball weight if towing.

So in saying all that if yours is anything like mine you might fit in a 600ml bottle of water.

My Grand loaded for a trip with full fuel tanks, fridge, tools, spares and stuff and 2 people is 3,000kgs without the van hitched up to it.

Fit more water tanks to the van.

Actually going by the RVD 1 sheet on the CRD, the tare is 1989kg and GVM is 2506kg which gives carry cap of 517kg, so doesn't leave much room for anything.
Anyway did you really mean 400lts of water ????

Well caught up on the other posts now so it's academic, are the WH that much heavier than the WG's ???

I thought the WH could weigh somewhere between 2700 -2800kg fully loaded.

My weighbridge docket states 2600kg last time we were fully loaded.

I just had a squiz at the RVD for the 2013 WH, tare for the CRD is 2281 with GVM 2949kg and the 2010 WH is Tare 2140 and GVM 2750 so they have been getting bigger since the WG, amazing. GVM for all engines is the same and the tare just changes slightly.

Another consideration besides being overweight is the theory of not filling except on the exceptional occasions is convincing the insurance company it was not full if you have an accident and the tank is damaged or even if it is not. In most cases the insurance company will assume the tank was full and drained from damage or your actions in which case you could always be deemed to be overweight and by by insurance coverage.

The other thing is, is this water strictly for cleaning. Drinking out of aluminium is crap. As much as stainless and ally fabrication is my trade I'd be saying find a plastic tank, it'll be cheaper for a start. A lot a water in the car too if a seam splits.

2,750kg is the GVM for a WH.

The 2,600kg did that include passengers?
