I am running 265/65/17 STZ's on standard rims with a 2" lift with only very minor rubbing on sway bar at full lock, not enough to worry about. I did cut the end off the bolt though as it was too close for comfort, but not touching.

Some 265/65's will fit, they are only an OD of around 775 mm, which is an inch smaller overall than a 265/70, which means 1/2' more clearance at the bolt. If you were on commander rims you would be lucky to touch the swaybar with those tyres.

You have also cut the bolt which is fine, and give more clearance, as long as you have on board air to change out a cv on the trail as that BJ wont come off with the bolt cut with normal tools! Lot of people do trim the bolt, but personally i dont recommend it, thats just me.

This pic shows a Commander rim fitted with a 265/70r17 BFG all terrain, and you can see how close to the bolt it is, but it clears.

A 275/65 r17 allterrain will also clear on these rims, as they are around 785 OD, so they have a little more clearance at the top. And they are a common size due to being standard on a patrol.

I hope that makes sense.

Dave

I agree with Valpacer, I wouldn't cut the bolt. I lost count on how many times I removed those ball joints. I only don't understand how the BJ wouldn't come off, you only need a hammer for that, whacking the flat part once or twice and it pops out. The issue is putting it back on then properly tightening it. Some have cut the bolt, then filed two sides of the thread on the bottom of it for a grip with a tool but I just prefer a proper 10mm wrench while I'm tightening the bolt.

265/65 will fit standard rims. 275/65 will fit Commander rims but will rub slightly. You'll need to raise it 2".

I'm now running 265/70 on Commander rims with 2" lift, no trimmed bolt, no rubbing except very very slightly when doing very steep rock climbs but nothing to worry about.
