go 40 psi in the tires, turn off the air con, don't floor it away from the lights and learn to coast with traffic. make sure your front wind deflector/undertray is on for better hwy efficiency.

Wind deflector is on, I'll put the tires up this afternoon, I don't really floor it at all unless trying to get going when entering traffic which does not happen that often. I'll try the tires and reset and see how I go.

I have a V6 man with 3.21 diffs, DBOR front bar, no deflector, 2" OME lift, AEV snorkel with Topspin prefilter and 285/70R17 Bighorn mud tyres.

Freeway at 100kph in 5th or 6th I get ~11-12L/100, doing the school runs, ~16. Lots of hill starts & corners... The biggest increase I saw in fuel consumption was putting on the 285s from the OEM 255/75R17s. ~3/4 inch bigger, but I believe the chunky tread increased the rolling resistance significantly. before they went on I could get down to 10-11 on the freeway at 100. Usually in 5th, the 3.21s are too high a ratio to maintain speed up the rolling hills on the M4 between the Mountains & Parramatta without using excessive throttle in 6th! And go up to 110 and the usage goes up to ~13-14L/100 over the same stretch of road.

Are there any aftermarket ecu type upgrades that might offer better economy? That are tried and work?

The Superchips Flashpaq has settings for several fuel grades & Economy. Most who have installed them seem to say they helped, a few had issues. Most seem to report marginal improvements in fuel economy, (unless they make use of the slight extra power! )

They have a forum there you can check for users comments & help requests to get an idea.

edit: Just keep in mind that in the US they use pump octane to rate things. This is (motor octane number + research octane number)/2, so is ~3 or 4 below what we have (RON) for the same fuel. ie their 87 is our 91.
