Not a lot. Better than nothing at all. But I use a thick rubber mat as well in my XJ. For comfort. And to trap most of the sand and dirt. Just a quick flick of the mat to get rid of the grit.

Steptone stuff will block out some noise. I wouldnt bother with it on the floor as you will soon rub a lot of it off if you have no mats. Removable mats are probably best for you. Heat shields under the floor would be better.

Look into DynaDeck.

Nothing you can paint or spray on yourself will put up with the abuse of being on the floor and will have minimal sound insulation benefits (simply can't go thick enough). Plus there'll be absolutely no heat insulation.

The jaycar response sound deadening matting is similar to dynamat but again don't expect it to be insulating for drivetrain heat. Good to add some bulk to large expanses of metal (such as a roof, door panel, rear bulkhead) to reduce panel drumming though.

I just throw in some extra floor mats.
Doesn't rate as an ideal sound deadener, but in my case, I tend to submerge my carpets from time to time. It is easier to just flip them out to dry or wash if required.
If you don't action this early, they will soon stink.
I am currently addressing a serious smell problem which was created by a wayward mulie which was locked inside for 8 days.
I'm glad I don't have too much underlay to trap this stench in.
I recon plastic floor covering and ear muffs are the go!

There is one sort thats for heat/noise and it's adhesive backed.....there is another multi layer for noise that isn't adhesive backed, though I guess you could use spray adhesive to retain it.
I used adhesive DynaMat as a heat barrier before laying down the acoustic foam.
If you google Dynamat, you'll find a website with all their products listed.....

Heres a pic of the car I restored......painted the floor with a couple of layers of home made insulating paint, then Dynamat, then the acoustic foam, then underfelt and carpet.......worked extremely well, the car was a loud V8, but inside was very comfortable and relatively quiet.

How is it to get in Australia? Do I have to buy in off the net?
