Sounds like a sensor

Ethanol is pretty rough on plugs but generally it not an issue with e10, in my Ciivc racecar which run e85 107ron plugs are lucky to last 6mths and 10k and generally its starts backfiring when u lift off the load pedal, thats unburnt fuel.

Anycodes displaying ?? Have you checked

Mine has no codes (checked with the key dance) and i dont think it is an ethanol issue, unless caltex 91 has it and its unlabled (in south australia)

I reckon ill clean the throttle body, maybe a new fuel filter, and more 98 from high volume servos and see if it clears up. Of not next step will be taking it to someone who knows what they are doing

Sweet. I shall give all the above a go!

Funny you guys mentioned fuel because I saw the missus fill up with 91 from a BP that is old as hell the other day and I didn't think anything of it. I normally run 95 or 98. I'm hoping to hell it's that simple of a fix. Unfortunately I still have a quarter tank of that crap in the tank so I'll run it dry and run it through with some 98 and see if it helps.

Cheers guys!

It's up to you, but if it was my truck, I would offer some relief to my poor engine by diluting the "crap" with some nice juicy, high quality, 98.
Fuel like BP Ultimate has all sorts of nice cleaning additives already in it.
Unless it was completely empty when your wife filled it, it shouldn't be completely a quarter tank of it anyway.

It sounds very similar to the issue I had last year, thought it was fuel, turned out to be a sensor.

Which sensor?

Im not changing filters meanwhile. Google tells me it is in the tank, and im not doing that with half a tank of fuel after work... ill clean the throttle body an hope that a more good fuel fixes it.

Just had a look to find the paperwork as at the time had a death in the family and wasn't really caring, just needed it fixed due to needing to do heaps of driving. I think it could have been an exhaust sensor, but can't be sure. I went the fuel route first, better quality fuel, injector cleaner, metho as it could have been water (had recently rained heavily, thought servo may have had contaminated fuel). Ended up getting worse so had to take it in. I think they changed a couple of sensors, the first time made no difference, second time spot on. Sorry can't help much more than that, wasn't a great time for me, so wasn't paying much attention other than fix it I need it!
