SnowG - You wouldn't be upset with Jeep Service would you?? I know you weren't very clear about it but there was a slight intimation in your post that you were upset. The more I read it the more I laugh.

Well first - thanks for all your replies

Secondly - I just spent an hour or so, removing both front seats and pulling back the carpet.
The passenger side was soaking wet, about 3mm of water and the driver side was also wet but only along the edge nearest the door.

I went around and dried up as much as I could and the rest will need some sunny days (what...sun!) any way I took to the hose and thought I'd hose in all the vulnerable spots and I only got a trickle when shoving the hose under the plastic guard of the wipers full on!. Not enough to give that much water,

I also tried to stick a wire in the A/C outlet vent but that did not produce any water or mud. Though not sure if I have done that all too well.

So I'm a bit baffled and probably need to drive a few hours with no carpet to see if I can identify the source.

BTW I notice in the past that I get hot air only when I set thermo to the high position , though it's warm rather than hot. I wonder if that means anything?? anything less give no heat

I understand what you're saying snowyg. I'm currently at loggerheads oops....I mean discussion with a dealer over "funny" charges on a recent service
I try to avoid them but there are times, unfortunately, when you just have to use them to get certain tasks done properly! Auto service for example....

asp when you pulled the carpet up check the firewall and surrounds for any snail trails that may have been left by water leaking in possible thru a cable run, it usually gets dusty and shows up pretty well.
Any decent Auto Transmission shop can service the Jeep box and they are specialists not general mechanics like you find at a dealer who usually has 2 or 3 brands on the floor.

yes. I did some trails but they seem light and could not be responsable for the amount of water, but I could be wrong

I have now removed the seats & carpet and cleaned up the floor and will run around with no carpet for a few weeks to determine exactly where the leak is but Im sure. As suggested its a bit wet around the A/C vent. I managed to seal around the vent on the bonnet side as I think that water is coming in there too as it's only a light sponge type seal. I also managed to stick a plastic tube up the vent about a foot and seems clear with only a slight dribble coming out

The handbrake even scrubbed the carpet clean and even scrubbed the leather seats. THAT"S A FIRST!!! nearly fell over!

As for the auto - I tried a so called specialist once and as they do not use the Mopar fluid it will not work well. I was having all sorts of rough gear changes until I took it into Jeep just a few weeks later and have had no issues since.

Ill let you know of the outcome if things happen.

Thanks ALL

ON a side note the V8 gave, what I think is good economy from Sydney to Rainbow beach in QLD and back - about 12.4-13/ 100 and that with a 3" lift and 31" tyres

12.4-13L/100kms is great for a 4wd.
I once averaged 11.9 for a tank, I was heading south so it was downhill though.
Don't get that anymore, I like the loud pedal a bit too much..
I don't have a V8 so I can deactivate cylinders..

Water can only be from one of three places,
1. A/C drain
2. Water coming in from outside ie water crossings
3. Heater core (or hoses) leaking. ( due to angle of heater pipes if hoses leak water runs into cab since it only has a foam seal)
