Its a short coolant hose hidden under the intake manifold. This thread has the pics. Since I am a DIY was going to do a tear down and replace it before next big trip. It's a consumable item I am afraid so will be looking for a alt replacement from a hose specialist (hose only) so I don't have to do it again. Silicone, high temp etc. Now I know why I didn't bother with a catch can as have to strip and clean anyway, bugger. One site said 6-8 hour labour DIY job so will look at that claim as well given I cannot see that unless some bolts are are a real pain etc. Mind you, I don't see a lot of posts on it. Claims to high temps and towing well Australia has that as normal. I'm not overally worried and its a pitty we don't have a low coolant alarm to prevent the subsequent damage to the engine from this.

If your a member of this forum and generally handy or have a mechanic thats well grounded then a WK2 is a bargain in my view. The above is not a fault of the car, as clearly its in all ecodiesel vehicles with this engine. The reputation of the Dealership is the main reason in my view they drop like pigeons on price. Even service records from the dealership mean little given I kept having DPF regen issues and since takeing over the serving and putting in correct spec low ash oil, I can't recall a regen in 30K of driving. Factory Rear shocks bleading oil, is about the only common fault and again they are consumable items with aftermarket solving that.

Great link Mousie, most vehicles Ive had there would be some stupid hose tucked away at back of engine which if it failed causes a lot of grief, the 2.7 could have dodgy welsh plugs at the back and the Colorado the same, most times if you look close there is an easier way that what the workshop manual describes..... this hose will require watching though, with no engine cover and bash plates underneath i should be able to notice any snail trails..........
Sorry to hijack your thread Zacman, good luck with your purchase, just stay away from dealers and you should have a good run.

Thanks guys.
Drover - What was it that lead to 2015 and later may I ask? This one was used to tow a boat to the ramp once a month, so I wouldn't exactly call that a laboured life. I'm mechanically inclined and like to do my own stunts where possible, unfortunately North Qld isn't well known for its support network with anything Jeep.
They have an unhealthy love interest with everything Toyota and Nissan but am happy to be pointed in the right direction if anyone knows better...

There was a time that earlier models were having DPF regen issues which were eventually fixed with software updates. The turbo water line issue aside, about the most serious issue a 2015 or later model is likely to encounter is a failed alternator. So far, only petrol models have had a TSB issued.

Mate I honestly don't know, there was nothing major just that 13-14 models seemed to crop up more for little things while the 15/16 models didn't, a 15 with low miles, no towing but ideally with some added bits was my dream, for some reason I stumbled onto one just as they put up the for sale sign, in fact the low mileage I hoped for was in the 60K mark, 40K was very nice but I have wondered why but nothing has fell off or blown up in 10K so must have been just luck....... If that 14 runs well, feels good and has been looked after go for it I say..... I always change all fluids and filters when I get a new rig, then I know everything is starting from scratch......... I never use a Dealer no matter what the brand, Jeep parts Ive never had any real great trouble sourcing parts and on the rare occasion I need work done that i don't do myself, Engine problems a diesel workshop, Tranny then a tranny workshop if they say Jeeps are rubbish and too hard then you don't want them touching your vehicle as they are probably wankers..... The body may be Jeep but the engine and running gear surely isn't.

It would be interesting to know how many 2014 on Jeeps have had to have the turbo cooling water hose replaced or has Mousie just been unlucky. You would tend to think, "maybe naively" ,that a hose requiring that much of a strip down to replace would not require replacement so soon. Surely normal preproduction testing in extreme conditions would show up something as stupid as this.
Seeing it is so important and its failure such an expense, you would think, and again I will use the word "naively" again, it would be listed as a service item at say 100000 km service intervals.
Is this typically Jeep???
