Steve i'm not sure what size tyre your wrangler is coming with but if you do any serious offroading you'll soon realise you need something a little extra to get those diffs of the ground

don't get me wrong - if you want your wrangler stock then thats fine too - but 2'' lift and some good 31's make a huge difference - i had my wrangler stock for a year before i saw the light -

Definately crawl before you walk. I have had my TJ for almost two years now WITHOUT A LIFT and i've been to Fraser/Ormeau/LCMP and all the rest without worry. $1000 is a lot of money for something i was never going to appreciate in the first 12 months of jeep ownership. I suggest that all new TJ owners drive their jeep stock for at least months or more to get full appreciation of what they think (not the forum/other jeep users) is going to be worthwhile uprades.

I suggest you do what i did -

1) Get a towbar or a jbitz.com.au rear bar. This is an excellent recovery point.
2) go to arb and get 2x front recovery hooks installed for about $100 - or do it yourself
3) Get some sidesteps. I cannot enforce this enough. I have only just put sidesteps on my tj and i wish i had done it when i first bought the jeep. The front tyres WILL flick a lot of stones up on to your rear flares and cause damage to them. Trust me, sidesteps should be standard on TJ's to prevent this damage as my rear flares are terribly damaged to the point that they feel like coarse sandpaper & paint is peeling on the front side.
4) pull the splashguards and fit a set of driving lights (or put them on your arb bar - nice choice) I run a pair of Narva Targa 200's. Big, bright, bold and only $89 each from AutoPro they are just as bright as $300+ lights
5) Fit some 31x10.5 R15 All terrain tyres - better yet, buy a second set of rims and have a spare set of tyres.
6) Go to the beach and do some donuts with the 28" GSA's. THEY ARE AWESOME FOR CIRCLE WORK! The 31's slow things down too much...

Cheers!

I saw a cheap and nasty set of 31's called HIGHWAYS $125 each.. same tread pattern as BFG.. looked sick as.. and probably not a bad idea to play with cheapies until you find what you like.. its alot less heartbreaking blowing out a $125 tyre compared to say a $250 tyre

Tend to agree with Jeeps here, muck around with it for a few months before doing any major changes other than stuff like tyres, bull bar, lights, side steps etc...

Thats what I'm going to do anyway, fairly keen to put 31" tyres on but even that is just because they look so much better

31" is the largest tyre you can put on a stock wrangler and they may still rub at full lock. The speedo will also be slightly out.

Splashguards I think Jeeps is talking about the front bumper ends which will also be coming off mine right away, again its personal preference though, some people like them others don't.
