I wasn't taking it easy and that included some non-nighway (around town) driving. I'd expect the economy to get a little better once the engine is fully run in. On the way out of town (with purely highway driving) the trivia display was showing 11.4 litres per 100k.

Yeah, Rubicon only comes in petrol (poo, would have preferred the diesel). Spoke to a friend with the latest Patrol in 3.0 turbo-diesel and I'm getting the same economy as him. So I'm quite happy...

Go test drive the petrol and the diesel and you'll know immediately which one to buy.

If I was buying a new JK there would be no second thoughts, I'd go straight for the diesel. I've driven a diesel JK a couple of months ago and it's a very nice motor/gearbox setup!

Agree completely.
The V6 just does not interest me - let-a-lone in the 4door.....
And since I'd like to get a rubi but there's no diesel and no hemi - so I wait..........
Oh yeah even the diesel isn't really my preference.....

If I was on a tight budget and it was a 2-door I was after, the V6 is nice. It's smooth, quiet and surprisingly economical.
But in every other case, I'd go the diesel. Especially in 4-doors and autos - so much more torque - effortless accelleration whenever you want it.
Others have rightly pointed out the huuuuge real-world fuel consumption differences between the two, but don't forget that the diesel should be worth much more than the petrol later on. Look at the discrepancies in WG values - petrol Overlands struggling to get $25k, CRDs easily going for $35k !!
