Surely a near new socket could not be stuffed already, I probably haven't even done 3,000k's.
Haven't checked oil properly yet either. I did check it based on your standing overnight level against the dipstick I have and a measurement I took to the bottom of the pan when the pan was off. Just can't be sure of the measurements after so long. Have ordered a proper dipstick tool to cross reference better.
Also was thinking with original shutting down issue that maybe it din't like the new oil when fully hot. Previous owner was running the Penrite with no apparent issues but I went to the Nulon as it is available off the shelf locally. It carries the MB 236.10 spec reference but of course is not on the official MB list. Odd thing is the Nulon says MB OK but also Chrysler ATF+3 and ATF+4 but my understanding is using ATF+4 is a no-no. So how does it meet both specs.
Was going to change to the Fuchs Titan oil as they make a lot of the oils for the German manufacturers and their ATF was listed on the original MB spec sheet although I can't find the link just now but they don't show up under the current spec sheet for some reason. Only a Shell product does (not availbale here). Trouble with the Fuchs is that although it is cheaper than the MB oil and even the Febi Bilstein it is only available in 20 litre drums which will take me a looong time to use. Valvoline is not on the spec sheet but again I found a link to a MB training bulletin and it was listed for the original 236.10 spec. It is also widely used on the MB forum with good reviews and the best bit is it is locally available at Supercheap for $50 for a 5 litre tub.
I am struggling at times Drover to maintain the love affair so you may get lucky but I am trying to rekindle the affair by continuing to kit the car out to be the perfect tourer. I picked up this today in an attempt to spark things up :
