Harrys Hut was the first place I took mine when I got it. Was very wet (as in raining hard) but track is very passable although can get quite slippery in some sections that turn to soft clay after long periods of heavy rain (the pic at the top of my posts is actually at Harrys Hut )

Roads up around there change a lot as many are used by logging trucks and I havent been up there for a few months now. A bumpy ride but passable in a 2wd in the dry.

A very nice quiet spot for a bit of fishing and RnR (its only 30 minutes or so from me)

Hey Guys

I'm a lurker over in the XJ section, saw this on the front page. I attempted a Harry's Hut trip as a day run with my son last week Tuesday the 10th and didn't make it to the hut. About 1km from the finish line and I had no way around this big beast.

Forest Wins.

So I would phone ahead to the relative authority to check it out, would have to be fixed by now but you could clear a way around if you had a couple pairs of hands, it's pretty dense tree's through the last stretch. All I had with me was an impatient toddler who wanted to run around the forest so cleaning out a section to get through was going to take too long on my own. Otherwise the road in was great, well sign posted if you can get on the Cooloola Way you can't miss it. I was entirely confused by the map I had which suggested you could get there via Bates Road. Ignore your GPS / Topo if it says so, Bates just comes to a dead stop at a turn around point about 2k's down the road, you have to keep going straight till you run out of bitumen and then through some windy stuff on dirt to reach the start of the Cooloola Way.

In other news I spent 17 years in Dysart Glend so i feel your pain! Anyway hope your trip goes smoother then mine!

Regards
G.

LOL - My GPS sent me up Bates road too. Got to the end and it started to narrow. I wanted to keep going to see if it came out the other side but the missus wouldnt let me. Guess it was only 4 days old at the time and the 'track' was less than half the width of the Jeep

EDIT: Just looked it up on Google maps and it actually does go right through to Galloway lane, just looks like the middle section hasnt been used in a looong time.
