so the whole bar looks flat when closed up

Yep, with notches in the top of the C channel for the carrier to come up through when closed. It would also mean there would be no obstruction in front of the lights. Hmmmm, might have to have another look at this option.

yeah thats what i'm thinking but like you said the latch and swing part are a bit tricky

sheez, the XJ doesn't arrive for a few more days and already I have added to an already long list of planned mods, I'd better stay away from this section I think.

I was thinking this style of mount within the C channel, that way you wouldn't need bearings etc in the carrier and it would be more compact. Basically weld a tube in the c channel from top to bottom, cut the middle section out and drop a pin through it that can be removed to take the swing arm off, the tierod ends also mean the carrier can be adjusted to get it square

It will probably leave melbourne 2nite or 2morro nite? So I am guessing thursday or friday, if friday will be monday before home as I'm going to be away this weekend.
