I have tried Caltex once and fuel economy was shocking so I stick to Shell or BP as it's appears to have better petrol than the others.

I have heard that as well from several mechs. Apparently BP Ultimate is the purest petrol, followed by Coles/Shell 98.

Best not start a fuel thread.
A significant proportion of Australian petrol comes from Singapore (Exxon) or India.
On the east coast you will not get fuel made by BP. they do not have a refinery on the East coast.
In Melbourne its Shell, Esso/Exxon or imported.
In Brisbane its Caltex or imported IIRC.
Sydney its Shell, Caltex or imported.
In Perth you will get BP or imported.
Tassie is all imported.
Adelaide is all imported.
Your mech friends are probably talking about fuel from 30 years ago.
Much has changed.
If you sit outside the refinery you will see all brands of tankers filling up.

So should I go to Today Tonight then and expose Shell's claim on their 98 being made in conjunction with Ferrari Racing as BS and what ever BP Ultimate claims to have which is written on the bouser. And know they were telling me the fuel is different in todays times.

Agreed. I find 98 gets 10% better economy on average. Lately it's been about 12-15% dearer than e10 but I always figure the extra 2-5% is worth it in preventative maintenance of fuel pumps etc.
