Any advice on where to get the Mopar kit at the best price? The dealer closest to me quoted $750 installed, and $810 for the kit. Yes, they charge MORE if you just buy the kit to install yourself. What a scam!!

I see that Murchison has it for $595 (http://www.murchisonproducts.com.au/...angler-tow-bar), but I think that I'll shop around to see if I can get it for less. Any suggestions?

Wiring guides to add a tow plug ($35) are easily available.

I got a genuine one (kit) from Lilydale Jeep. It was $500. That was about 6 months ago. Very quick and easy to install with plug and wiring.

Its an economic reality - too many rear bumper variations... and each one needs separate certification and its damm expensive , so not worth it.

That's not to say the rear bumper/hitches wouldn't pass.... its just the volume isn't there on any singe style. You know how people are - even $10 dearer and they buy elsewhere.

I believe the certification process involves actually destroying the bumper (maybe more than 1?) to document failure tolerances. For someone who may not sell many of a particular type, writing one off, and paying for the testing, they will never make that money back without much higher volumes and/or much higher prices
