It complies with ACEA C3-08, MB 229.51 and has a low SAPS (Sulphated-Ash, Phosphorus and Sulphur content) "suitable for use with diesel particulate filters".
Jeep states "Engine Oil Selection - Diesel Engines
For best performance and maximum protection for all
engines under all types of operating conditions, the
manufacturer recommends engine oils that are API Certified

Manufacturers can specify a particular brand of oil but that is not to say that there are not fully compliant alternatives available. Sometimes manufacturers have even specified a particular brand for commercial reasons.

GDay Brockie, I posted this early on in the thread…..
"Hi Thommo
thanks for the link…
looks like good oil - but I couldn't see any approval to Chrysler MS11106.
There are a number of oils around that meet a similar spec but I am pedantic about using an oil that states it has the Chrysler approval.
Back ages ago when I discovered Shell had quietly changed their formula for Helix Ultra Extra and it no longer carried the approvals i did some research on what the MS11106 actually related to.
The information i got back at the time was that to gain the approval the oil has to meet a residue test whereby oil is heated on a hot plate and the carbon deposit is measured.
I particularly want to avoid any carbon issues which is why I have stuck with the only oil I can find available that does state the approval.
Of course it is possible that other oils may well have the required formulation, just that they haven't submitted for approval (or paid the money!)."
I've done my checking and I'm sticking with the MS11106 as my personal choice. In all my reading I've noted all sorts of wriggle wording from any amount of sources.
The MS11106 specifically relates to ash residue from heated oil, and as my engine recirculates crankcase fumes and oil mist into the intake system, then passes the exhaust through a particulate filter I want the highest spec oil I can get.
I'm prepared to source it, pay for it, and supply it to my dealer. The oil I use has the approval on the label. It is simply a risk management issue for me.
Brand and type of oil will be the choice of individual owners - i simply posted the information I had to hand in case it is of assistance or interest to others.
John
