You'd think the hard core users and off road product manufacturers like Uneek, Chief & Murchison would have mentioned it, as well as the many off road reviews.

I was out with 4 other WK2s off-road yesterday, this happened to my TH and one of the Laredo’s. I had it happen in my previous Overland as well, so whilst I wasn’t surprised it is certainly disconcerting. Same circumstances, basically very steep loose hill climb, lots of wheel spin and under load. This was on my second attempt of the climb when I took a harder rutted line to test the selec-speed ascent control as the first time it went up so easily I was astonished. Anyway I agree it seems to be a safety cut out, for the engine not the driver though given you loose everything. I suspect under normal off-road conditions you wouldn’t ever find this out.

Interesting, or more accurately....disturbing. Nothing I've been able to find on traction control/torque control in the WK2 mentions the engine cutting out in steep off road situations as a strategy. You'd have to be nuts to come up with such a dumb idea. Would be good to get an explanation from Jeep on this matter. I wonder if it is linked to Quadralift and OR1/OR2 speed limitations?

Definitely not as I have steel springs (lifted 2”) so it’s not related to suspension settings I. The computer. Makes me wonder how you’re supposed to get up steep rutted hills that have little traction and require a bit of oomph??

Just weird that this hasn't been discussed before. I'm not convinced it is a design or normal behaviour. Because if it is then the owners manual should be stamped with the warning....."If attempting steep rough tracks, your Jeep is programmed to cut the engine and vacuum to your brake booster as well as loss of power steering...just when you need it most."

I was using the Selec Speed function and deliberately took a harder line to test the system, it did stall once but I didn’t lose any ground and just restarted and went again. It climbed the rutted section that couldn’t be done in other attempts albeit it was very slow going.

I don’t have be select speed in the Laredo just Downhill descent which works great. I don’t believe I can use that function to go uphill but I must admit I’ve never tried it. I think next time I’ll try mud mode for maximum traction and maybe dial back my throttle controller for less aggressive input to limit wheel spin and hope the traction control works well enough to stop wheel slip. I think the rear elec diff lock would also help greatly but my POV pack doesn’t have that either.
