If the problem is rail pressure it could be this....

If once it starts you turn it off before it warms up, and then try it again and it start right away then it's likely rail pressure dropping.

There is a Boshe pressure regulator on the front of the high pressure pump and this part goes out and causes that.

Had the same issue. ... if it's not the O-rings on the fuel filter. Mine was not an o-ring issue.

Pretty much the longer the Jeep sits the harder it is to start. It's fine the next morning, but 2 days later it's getting harder to start.

It is certainly better since I replaced the O rings though.

I have no fuel system codes showing, if the reg was dodgy would I see any?

Hey, just wanting to revive this thread now it's getting colder.

I can drive this thing every day, but once the temp drops below about 12 degrees in the morning, it's takes 3 or 4 attempts to start it.

Today it was fine by late morning, about 20 deg air temp. The previous 2 days in the forest it was cold, and in the shade, and it was a bugger to start.

FYI, I am throwing no codes at all related to glow plugs or controller.

Well as the diesel doesn't require choke, just a glow plug, shot of fuel and compression. It is one of them.

If the glow plug module is working and the glow plugs are working, then it has to be fuel. Maybe if it is left standing for a long period, the pump is dry?

Maybe take it to a diesel specialist, and do a leak down test on the injectors, they may be draining the fuel from the rail.

I'd go with that idea, or the injector pump could be suffering from drainback, thus having to reprime from dry each time its left for 48 hours or more. I suspect it'd get worse with greater time. There is usually an antidrain valve on the supply line side of the pump, I'd look at that, possibly a weak spring?

Unless you are really keen on doing it yourself getting a specialist to do it will save heaps of time and frustration.

Doug.

IMO it sounds like the glow plug control module, if you check on youtube, it is an easy fix.
