Dammit... I have to stop looking under the car. After reading this thread I had a look and seems I'm in the same boat.

Looks like I too also took a hit to the Fuel Tank guard which caused it to splay out at the top and catch the balance weights tearing one off. You can see where it hit the top of the tank guard in this pic and bent the top edges. The boot is also split on a couple of segments and the whole thing is barely a mm away from rubbing the tank guard. I'll have to bend that back a bit tomrrow just to be safe.

Having a quick look online now I came across a thread where Diggerfreak in US installed a custom aftermarket driveshaft.

from this driveshaft company.

Prices seem to be around the $250-$300 range... say that again for shipping and might be a replacement option for <$500. Worth investigating.

Well I found my missing weight

Got under the car last night to bend the tank guard abit away from the driveshaft and when I reached my hand up and over to feel between the guard and fuel tank I felt this odd loose bit of metal in there....

Certainly took a hit... damn near folded it in half. Surprised actually considering how thin and weak the tank guard is.

Default Rubber Boot on Rear Driveshaft

Perfect! Just hammer it flat and araldite it back on. If all goes to plan mine should be rebalanced & rebooted by the end of the week, will report back on the result and cost. Wish me well.

Go and see your local mechanic mate.
I had my boot damaged out on a trip one day as well. Took it to a Jeep dealer and was quoted the same $1400 to replace the whole rear drive shaft. Went to see my local mechanic, he quoted me $120. So I went back to jeep, purchased the proper fuel tank guard and got the mechanic to fit both the rubber boot on the drive shaft and the tank guard for $150. Job done, no more worrying about the crappy plastic tank guard damaging the rubber boot. The following week, I installed the transfer case and gearbox bash plates my self. Piece a cake.

Cheers.. Vlad.

Hey Vlad your mechanic is good value. Any chance the paperwork has a part number/brand for the replacement boot? The driveshaft shop is too busy to do mine for the next few weeks they're that popular.

I had a search for the invoice to check the part number for ya but it must be somewhere in the storage. Moving houses sux... lol

If I find it when emptying out the storage I'll let you know, but by then I'm guessing you would have already repaired yours.

Unfortunately it can be one of the first things that can get damaged if a wrong line is taken out on a track mate, hence it's popularity I guess.
