Thanks for the info everyone. Pretty much as I figured.

The really annoying part is that I was following the tracks of someone who had gone straight over and out. Unless they took it at speed and inertia carried them over the "bottom out" moment, I don't know how they did it. I have always though that in a diesel short wheel base Wrangler I can pretty much go anywhere that anyone else can (Rubicons excepted of course) at least that is what I have been telling my wife. So I would love to know what kind of car it was that went straight over. And this is on my own block of land - talk about rubbing my nose in it!!

My understanding of the brake controlled traction is the vechical needs to be doing a minimum speed to get it to work correctly.
The car needs to see enough difference between the speed signals from each wheel to know which brake to apply.
Can any one confirm this? This might be why it did not transfer torque.

so is that yours in the pic? is it just a rubicon "sticker pack"? or a genuine rubi?...doesnt that contridict what your saying about a diesel short wheel base?

Looks to me like the whole problem was one that affects all vehicles ....

Get stuck on the belly plate ... and you just need to jack and pack ....

Or go get the missus ....

Traction on any vehicle depends on vehicle weight keeping sufficient tyre pressure on the terrain ... Once the vehicle weight is supported by some other influence - all the electronic gizmos in the world wont help ... except maybe - swaybar disconnects to let the axle drop lower.

What I don't quite understand, is that I thought that the brake activated traction control stops any elevated wheel from spinning and directs all power the the remaining wheels on earth. I had just one wheel at the front and one at the back spinning and digging neat holes in the soft dirt and not moving me forward. This is the same as the old Landcruisers that I used to drive in the 1970s. I thought Wranglers were better than that. Or, was it because I was bellied out and the chassis was taking the weight of the car and none of the wheels were putting any real force onto the ground?

Does anyone understand how the system works? Please!
mate if your diffs are resting on the ground or you are resting on your chassis, nothing but a tow by another vehicle can get you out, unless you jack up the rear of the vehicle (till until diffs and chassis are clear of the ground) then put dirt and rocks under the rear wheels to give the vehicle ground clearance. then you can drive out.

The traction system is very effective and seems to me you were probably bellied out. For the system to work effectively you need to give it some throttle and not back off for a time, simply feathering the throttle want necessarily activate the system
