Decided I'm not claiming on insurance, will fix it myself.

I did kick myself afterwards for not thinking of it, but you forget how greedy they can be. Apparently they are reviewing their policy for this occasion, not holding my breath though. Now I'm home and I've had a chance to check the car over, it's clear the bar has done a good job but its in need of replacement, same goes for the wheel well liners and the left guard. Might be some minor damage to the lower radiator area and the ESP is not happy. Might have to go ahead through insurance after all and just claim for the left side, this alone will still require a new bar. Thanks guys for your support, my missus commented after reading your posts saying that we are like a community. She's right and we don't tell crude jokes, act like rednecks or anything else that partners wouldn't take kindly too, nnnneeevvveeerrr......

Hi KK
I had a similar situation just like you, We were in Kalbarri and it was our return day so we set out early as its a 7 hour drive back to Perth, anyway there we were sitting on 110 k's an hour with cruise control on and we went round a slight bend only to see two Kangaroos standing in the middle of the road, I have always told my wife in a case like that you never swerve to avoid them as that would cause the car to roll so I braked like hell, only to see the Roo's look at us barreling toward them and they just hopped across to the other side. Boy I can tell you were we lucky, on that stretch of road we could see fresh kills every where and I was very vigilant but had they not just hopped out of the way we would have been toast. So the moral of the story is you are safe and with time your car will be back just like new.

At least you have kept your sense of humour mate. Hopefully insurance comes to the party with one excess.

Lightbulb Idea

How well do you get along with your smash repairer, a millennia or two ago I owned an F-100 and was hit by a bus.
I asked if I could have the front bullbar that was damaged in the accident replaced with an original bar and a nudge bar and he was fine with it.

I was concerned that doing this might be seen as fraud by the insurance company but was told that as long as I only claimed for the damage done there was no issue, in fact he said I was doing the reverse of what most people do, most people fit bullbars instead of the factory bar and pay the difference.

I did the same with the wife's car, had a factory bar with integrated fog lights off a higher specked model fitted after being collected by a "P" plater. All insurance work, I just paid the difference in price. I was insured with NRMA as well.

ESP - A long shot but try cycling to low range and back again.
