Default Recovery point ratings

The standard front and rear JK points are rated to 5500lbs or 1.5x the GVWM.
When I can find the Mopar catalog I have lying around I'll scan the page and post it.

The reason the yanks have the two upward facing points and we don't is due to pedestrian safety laws in Australia. Simply put they are considered to be a pedestrian hazard in Australia.

They can be used for recovery just fine. I've done it and seen it done dozens of times.

The ARB bar for the JK has to points underneath for recovery built them, like everybody else will not say they are recovery points for legal reasons. I fitted my ARB front bar last December and it has the points.

You will actually be pushing it to find any manufacturer, in Australia or overseas, that says their "tow points" are rated recovery points. Have a clsoe look at their websites and you'll see what I mean.

99% bolt through the exact same holes as the factory points and do not offer any extra strengthening on the factory subframe.

I've fitted a second factory loop and connect them with a bridle to distribute the load evenly when snatching. So far so good ...

The problem with the loop is you need to attach with a shackle, so if the loop breaks you are going to have a shackle attached to the end of an elastic band. With the hook, if it breaks, there will be nothing attached to the strap and it's much less likely to do damage or kill anyone standing in the wrong spot. Because of this I always use a hook over a loop and shackle.

Cheers
Steve

SteveF, if you're using a dampener on the snatch strap that will kill the kinetic energy very quickly and prevent missiles from flying anywhere.

Do these fit with the stock bumper?
I was led to believe they didn't.
If they do, a pic would be great.
