In reference to the issues raised at beginning of this thread, I suspect that the WK2 automatically delays the start procedure until the glow plugs are warm. Instead of waiting for the glow plug to go out as we are meant to before turning key all the way to engage the starter with our WH's, the WK2 I suspect does this itself.
In reference to crdv6's question, which is very different I believe, I have had the exact same problem. A year ago it was hard to start when winter came along. I checked the diagnostics and found the glow plugs had failed. I also read that the reason the plugs fail is the glow plug control module shorts out and does not stop sending current to the plugs even after the engine starts.
Just doing the plugs last year was enough, but now winter has come again, she won't start. This time the diagnostics say the module. I bought a new Mercedes module on ebay for about $300 (Jeep is just under $1000 from memory), and also ordered the glow plugs from Super Cheap for $120, which came in Friday thinking I would need both. Still to be picked up.
Friday I swapped the module out in my lunch break (and I wear a tie so pretty easy), and next morning started perfectly, so I don't really need the plugs.
So my suggestion is to read your diagnostics - I used the torquepro app bluetoothed to the car.
