Okaaaay maybe I was a bit harsh about the chevs
But you should steer clear of them if you can, they made some really good motors but there is also bad compatibility issues across the years even months.

As for diesel to petrol, it's about equally as complicated as petrol to petrol, you just have to change your fuel pump

Doesn't the 5.7L Hemi have MDS that shuts down 4 of the cylinders at cruising speeds therefore saving fuel??

You could look at that engine...Have the power when you need it and when you are driving normal speeds save on fuel...

First of all I have no experience in this, but my first thought would be to stick with the hemi, when you take into account all the ancillary stuff like engine mounts, fuel tank and pump, adaptor to transfer case, drive shafts, exhaust, wiring harness compatibility, radiator etc the end result and refinement might be worth the little difference in fuel usage compared to a LS or a Ford.
Another option could be to chill a little in the traffic, I'm sure there would be plenty of vehicles with a lot less get-go than the 2.8 that manage to get from A to B just fine.
Just my humble 2c worth.
PS. NOTHING beats the sound of a Hemi at full noise.

I am so confused here, one of the reason i am leaning to GM motor was reliability.... Almost 90% of the reading I did on US forums advise GM over Hemi for reliability, aftermarket support and fuel economy. We have different condition on this side of the world, does it affect GM reliability and make Hemi preferable over GM?

If it's gonna be a Hemi, then I rest my case, talked with Dan from Burnsville Off Road in the states, He claimed 100% stocklike operation with His Hemi kit to my 2012 CRD... 20K US including shipping. I originally wanted a GM 5.3 that's why I created this thread.

Does anyone know real world mpg for 5.7 vvt truck engine?

Whooooaaaa,

You pay how much for petrol at a Pertamina pump...? $0.65/Liter ?

Mate, I would definitely go the biggest dammned HEMI I could get....

The 5.7 liter Hemi does have MDS (Multiple Displacement System) whereby idle/cruise loads 4 cylinders shut down.
Hoof it and.... the full McCoy.....yeeeeehaaaawwww !!

LOL!! I take it you've been to Indonesia before I spent 6 years in Melbourne during my younger years, love it there and planning to retire there.
Here is current price for petrol here, give or take a few for currency float:
- Reg Unleaded (88-90 RON) AU$0.50/ L
- Premium Unleaded (92 RON) AU$1/L
- Premium Unleaded Plus (95 RON) AU$1.05/L

Does the Hemi 5.7 run on 88 RON petrol? If so, then hell yeah, Hemi is fine....

and sometimes it's not only about the money, it's annoying to have to refill every 300KM, heck I regularly cover 300Km in two days...
