I am hearing that the V6 3.0L VM 500nm CRD engine will go into the new Grand Laredo when the CRD is released as an Export Model (maybe late this year).

how long do wranglers usually live between models? We go the updated, more generic looking interior this year which is 4 years after the JK coming out....another 3-4 years?

Just weighing up aftermarket options

The V6 3.0L CRD has been available from VM for years. I can't say for sure but I think it might have been available even before the JK came out. I have no idea why Chrysler didn't use this engine from the start (rather than the straight 4) except that they are a bunch of morons.

i can think of 2 things:

1) cost.

2) do you think the JK which was engineered to normally operate with a piss weak 3.8L V6 would be able to handle a 3.0L V6 Turbo Diesel?

Well the Ford territory V6 Duro whatever costs just $3250 more than the petrol http://www.carsguide.com.au/site/new...el_first_drive

I paid $4000 extra for a straight 4, so IMO cost can't be a significant reason. I'm not sure a v6 would put out heaps more torque but it might be quieter, smoother more responsive and give better fuel economy when cruising (oh, and it might be longer lived as well).

Look back to point 1 - cost.

Ford can do this to the Territory. They have a vehicle which has been designed from the ground up to see large amounts of torque (Turbo charged i6) as a result they have pre-existing driveline and any relevant chassis engineering changes required to suit the large torque outputs. Plus Ford has a much larger parts bin than Chrysler.

The JK was designed to have a pathetic 3.8L V6 strapped into it. There are no significant changes between the existing V6 or CRD vehicles. heck, option it with the 6 speed manual and you get a de-tuned engine because their pathetic clutch and gearbox cannot cope with the torque output of a 4 cylinder.

yeah, clutch has max 490nm input torque. gearbox 370 nm max. the diesel is too strong for the gearbox as it is, stock.
