You can buy the timing belt parts kit for about $400 delivered from VM UK. But, it is an expensive service if you get Jeep service gusy to do it. A number of KJ owners have done the job themselves with the parts kit (new belt, tensioner assembly, pulleys, seals, etc). Read through the aftermarket parts thread and you can find the contact details for VM UK.

Make sure the cooling system is up to scratch as they like to blow the number 3 cylinder.

Timing belt.. While you are at it, get the water pump as you don't want to do that job twice!!

Make sure it has a decent up to date service history, even then still check and double check things like mayo in the oil cap, turbo hose leaks (Costly from stealers).

90%of calls we get regarding the vm are for blown/cooked engines. When asked, it's usually the number 3 cylinder.

As for who, not everyone who owns a jeep is on AJOR!!!

The factory front bash plate is about half the thickness of the aftermarket one! If you are getting bash plates and a new front one is available I suggest you get it as well.

Bogged can you give us some more information about this number 3 cylinder problem you have found. I have searched through the entire LOST post history and can find only one posted cylinder related engine failure (a cracked liner most likely due to a dry testing or assembly problem at the factory and that failure happened with less than 1000kms on the clock). High mileage cyclinder liner problems can occur where the wrong coolant allows cavitation pitting of a liner. There was nothing related on ISFJeepers or KJcountry forums. Looking through the AJOR history the most recent example of a massive engine failure seems to be INCAs 2.5L failure but the reason was never found as he didn't want to pay for a tear down. Obviously search criteria can affect the results, so if there is more information this would help pin down this important issue for AJOR KJ CRD owners.

Edit note: If this warrants removal to a separate thread I will lift the posts related to the engine failure discusion and start a new thread so this one doesn't stray off topic.
