I was very keen on a roof top tent for my WH GC, but after after removing the roof rails and seeing how they're mounted (for another purpose.), I've decided against it.
I'm not comfortable putting any more than ~20-30kgs total up there for any kind of outback travelling.

I'm happy to carry cargo around like that, and probably fine if you're not expecting too much rough driving.
But, for example, I wouldn't be confident doing a track like the canning with 50-60kgs up there.

That was how I was thinking even though my partner still really wants one. Our Oztent is probably quicker to set up than one of those anyways. They call it a 30 second tent but my partner and I set it up in the back yard in 12. Taking it out on its maiden voyage in the Otways this weekend to see how it goes. Plan on taking it around Aus in a few years. We will see how it goes.

Some mates and i have just bought 7 tents from china, they appear to be the same as the ARB Simpson tents. Cost was $360 each including delivery to brisbane. If anyone is interested I will take a heap of pics when they show up.

Climbing up and down the ladder to go walkies at night is a PITA and the mount on the roof isn't up to it really.
