Just had a look at the owners manual on the garmin website ( http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/Navus...nersManual.pdf ) which shows the unit has a compact flash card in it. If the card has the normal gmapsupp file format that garmin uses for it's other units you could download free maps from http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/

I use openstreetmap data on my Jeep Trail guide. I have the garmin mapsource program so I download the installer to install the maps to mapsource and have to link my GPS to transfer the maps. With a card it'd be easier as I think the download link you get emailed may include a gmapsupp file for putting straight on a card for installation.

The card flap is on the side of the unit. I'd remove it and beg borrow or steal a CF card reader to see what the files are like on there. If the gmapsupp file is there I'd back that up as the original and install new maps.

Here's a link to the Australian maps from openstreetmap.nl

http://osm.pleiades.uni-wuppertal.de...23d818b01ce3c/

As I thought there is a gmapsupp file which would just need unzipping and putting on the CF card if garmin use the same software as their other devices.

There is also an install file for Mapsource, so you could download the Mapsource program from Garmin and view the maps on your computer too, which also allows you to plan routes. You may be able to put any planned routes on the CF card too to transfer them to the Jeep's GPS. Not entirely sure about the transfer as both my Garmin GPS units are older designs and don't have card slots.
