Default 6 inches of XJ lift.

I agree with ApacheResistance on this one. I wouldn`t run a taller leaf spring than 4 1/2 inches as it would be super stiff & quite short eye to eye unless it was made with a much longer main leaf. Best set-up would be 3 1/2" to 4 1/2" taller spring pack & a set of shackle re-locating brackets to restore correct shackle angle. I can post some links for the shackle re-locators if requested. They are not expensive.
cheers,
Rick

You'll get the best flex out of leaves that are almost flat at rest with the weight of the vehicle naturally sitting on them. The longer the main leaf the better.

Leaves with big lift will have a strong natural curve in them, and will be short eye to eye straight line. As a result you'll typically get bugger all sag, and as the spring pack compresses against the natural curve they will be stiff as all get out. Add to that standard shackles limiting the shortening/lengthening of the springs as they move through their arc and you get poor suspension performance overall. As a bonus, springs with a strong curve ( ie big lift) won't twist well and will work against axle articulation.

However, it will look cool to the untrained eye. Lol

Yeah, doesn`t matter if it doesn`t work...so long as it looks smart... Why would you go to all the trouble of installing a product that you know is not going to work properly. But each to their own I guess. If you do buy some big springs, set them down prior to using them.

I added a leaf and had the springs reset. The effect was a two inch lift in the rear. The car handles best when laden with pax and cargo. If this is true with only a minor increase in height, I can understand what an even higher lift would mean. Unless you plan lots of creek crossings, or to carry very heavy loads, not sure how much benefit you may get. Even with my setup the sag is gone and the cargo area can take serious weight and the car handles very well. Billstein shocks

Wait what? You don't need to flex? Are you planning on crawling the mall parking lot?

Just because both of your axles are locked and you have big tires doesn't mean you don't need to flex. You need flex mate.
