Allegedly the 4.0 engine may be subject to a 'heat soak' issue where the #3 injector is heated by the exhaust causing the fuel to boil and/or damaging the injector. |
That is very interesting, I had what is best described as fuel vapourising on a trip down the centre of Aust, could have been what you are describing here.
Never happened the same again and my loss of power issue manifested about 2yrs later.
Fuel pump not difficult, just a pain removing fuel tank

Hi guys,
Pretty sure it's that it's the coil pack and cam sensor. I've ordered replacements. Should be here soon.
Dave.

Hi guys,
I think I might have had the same happening to me on the weekend. Was driving for about 100 km during the day with some stop/start and breaks with no problem. On the way home after about 30 km the car hesitated at 100 km/h, only very tiny throttle action would keep it going at 90 km/h until the problem got worse and vehicle actually slowed to a stop - changing gears did not matter - and it stopped with basically no power - even hazards would not work. Opened hood and looked for 2 min, could not find anything started again and went off. The hesitation came back a few times at different speeds and went away again. Tried to pull codes today and none !!!
I do have a dual battery system, but besides that the vehicle does not have a lot of wiring issues.
I am little confused after not finding any codes, thought it was TPS.
Any idea?
Cheers,
Oli

Yep that is exactly what happened to me. What did the temp guage do? Mine rose to just under 105ish when it occurred.

The temp gauge did nothing - always just below 100ish, got good radiator, but normally underhood temps are high, that is why I installed louvres on top and side of the hood and the underhood comps were cold when I touched them at the first hesitation. During City driving they get a little hotter. I will change the coil, leads (might not have been done for a few years) and also the TPS - hope that will make it go away....
Any other ideas?

Did some checks on my car again and was able to reproduce the hesitation after 30 min driving. TPS checked with online ODBII Snap-On tool and works ok, still no codes set, no primary fault codes and no secondary either. Which lets me believe that this is related to the fuel pump which would not result in any codes?
Any comments anybody?
Cheers,
Oli
