Here is the North American Spec chart for your tire:

http://www.bfgoodrichtires.com/tire-...ails#techspecs

Take note of the (38371) 35x12.50R17/D line item.. scan across.. it would show you that the above tire spec would net you around 34.8

I think your main concern would be as to what size rim you should have along with what type back spacing just so the desired tires fit without rubbing.
thanks for all that.. but my main concern is not rim size, backspacing etc.. it's not my first time at the rodeo..

my main concern is paying for a 35" tyre and getting a 33" which seems pretty common with BFG particularly .. the spec on their website is NOT correct.. not one 35" BFG owner reports their tres being 34.8".. most are saying they are around 33.5ish..

what's the response from BFG? (apart from them offering you a 37" tyre - with said price increase, just to get your 35")

not to mention "sorry officer they really are 33s, don't worry about what the sidewall says"

I haven't bought them.. all manufacturers state the sizes are approximate and depend on rim size etc.. it just appears that BFG's run pretty small.. so really all the guys on 35 BFG's are really running 33.5"

couldn't care about what the officer thinks/says

Is the width shy of the quoted measurements as well?

The 35" converted diameter could be true if measured at max pressure before fitting perhaps? . . . .

Could argue to the fun police they are legal going by measurement. As the regs state 50mm bigger. Think about it. If you bought a 2" lift that gave you 4" for some reason do you think the copper or the courts care what's written in the receipt or product spec sheet? Doubt it. They can't have it both ways.

The problem is cops do have it both ways, which really sucks but there is not much you can do about it. I do believe the wording of the law regarding tyre sizes means it is based on the specified size not actual size. This works both ways of course. 32 inch centipedes are much bigger which in some cases could keep a car legal with all the benefits of a bigger size. Maybe we should start a list of actual sizes.

VSB14 states replacement tyres Must not be more than 50mm larger or 26mm smaller than that of any tyre designated by the
vehicle manufacturer for that vehicle. it is a measurement not a actual tyre size they will have to go on, it pays to have a copy of the relevant standards in your vehicle with the appropriate sections underlined so you can point out to the uninformed & ignorant statutory body's that your vehicle is legal & they can go & pick on someone more deserving

link to VSB14
Tyres are in section 4,2
