They are 5 watt.
You need to program them once you get them. There is plenty of info on the web on how to. They are very robust.
The price varies from seller to seller. The ones I have purchased have been a case of sitting on it waiting till 1 minute before auction ends & bid then. I can talk with people 40 km from me no problems on VHF, probably further. In the high country VHF signals appear to bounce over the mountains & up the valleys. The police/CFA repeaters allow you to hear whats going on when driving on most roads, better coverage than mobile phones. Some you dont want to listen to, like the bike ride fatality the other day. Handy to know about road blocks from accidents etc when they are occurring. Dont get info in Melbourne though as its all digital there.
