Thanks for the suggestions.

Will this number match the VIN or is a date stamp on the frame? I've found this on the pass. side frame, right under the seat.

Will get under it tomorrow...

Thats where the numbers are stamped on the 2 old cherokees i have here ..under the drivers side on the chassis/frame....

The numbers on the chassis/frame should match your VIN ...mine both do..

Mickb,

Could be a bit more specific on the location?

I spent two hours under there with a torch and a wire brush and couldn't find anything! So frustrating...

Cheers,

BK

Hi no,probs ..mine is located right inline with the middle of the drivers door down on the side of the chassis ...it stands out quiet easy ...also like others have said also could be on your engine mount ...and probably anywhere else jeep decided to put them...if it was me and i couldn't find it i would just stamp the numbers from your vin/fire wall plate on the chassis some where ..happy days ...here is a pic of mine you can see where they stamped a number 8 when it should of been a B so they just stamped over the 8....I think all of these jeeps where Friday cars ...

You can see that in 1982 this was the 638 cherokee built thats if they started at 0 ...i have a 1985 model and its number is 1488 sounds about right
