If you have got the low pressure rail warning then its as darren said, the pressure sensors in the rail, I have come across 3 other cars in the past 3 months that have had/having these problems.

But also keep an ear out if the intake pump is priming while it has a failed/delayed start? there has been 2 cases I worked on were the TIMP randomly wouldn't trigger the pick up pump and prime the fuel system, leaving to delayed or long cranking before starting

*fuel filter is on the low pressure side, so even a semi blocked fuel filter won't give of a low pressure warning once, unless its completely blocked and preventing flow, which the car will not run as the high pressure pump would not have enough fuel to maintain pressure (under 2000psi and injectors stop firing)

There is a CRD facebook page where problems like this are posted,

116,000 klm
Thanks i will have a look

Totally Integrated Power Module. Basically it's the fuse and relay box that sits in front of the battery. It's usually the primary suspect for intermittent electrical problems.

From the dealer they're around $1200. You can get one out of the States for USD540 plus USD125 exchange fee which you'll get back if you send your old broken one back. That works out to $800 AUD plus freight. You'd get about $175 of that back if you sent yours back which may or may not be worth the effort depending on the return freight cost.

In other words, pray you're not up for a TIPM.

Default Hard to start when hot.. (long mail here..)

My Jeep has just had major surgery after throwing the timing belt (stripped the teeth) and crashing all the rockers... However before it went into surgery it was getting harder and harder to start (longer and longer cranking), now I mistakenly thought that my timing belt had been the cause of this as when the mech showed me the damage there were a couple of random teeth missing on various sections then a whole row of a about 150-200mm of them missing. But I have the Jeep back now and its starting problem has probably worsened!.. (I did not want the dealer to hold onto the car any longer as costs were going through the roof), they actually replaced the battery as well.
So today I did a couple of experiments... first just turned the ignition on while in the quiet of the garage and listened for the tank priming pump.. it was whirring away as you expect for about 20secs then stopped so I think that is all OK i.e. fuel getting to fuel in the filter. Then after getting it started, (its not too bad from cold (2-3sec of cranking) but a still a little longer than it used to be). I went for a drive.. once warmed up I stopped and tried to start it again....cranking, cranking, cranking, cranking,...with the new battery it was cranking quick but just not firing.. then eventually it started! Anyway I decided to try and eliminate some things.... So went to a local steep hill and parked, tried to start with the ignition... cranking, crankin.... etc you get the idea.. and nothing still would not fire. So put it into 2nd gear turned on the ignition and did a good old fashioned bump start!! I would think within 2turns of the engine it fired up perfectly!! Tried this a couple of time and every time it started perfectly within two or three turns of the engine. This tells me there is plenty of fuel and pressure to start but something electronic is stopping the injectors from spitting. So now I have to work out what it is.... if it was the fuel pressure sensor.. would this not stop it from starting even when bumped?..maybe some other sensor is causing this... I'm still looking..

If anyone else is having the same issue and has found the solution let me know, I loath going back to a dealer to sort this out..

a tired intake pump will have problems getting enough base pressure to feed the main pump (engine hi pressure pump), the injectors will not fire until the base pressure in the rail is above 2000psi.

A tired fuel pump, or slow cranking starter can be causing these problems. But almost always its been the intake pump
