Just out of curiosity, you mentioned wanting to use the park lights around late afternoon/dusk - why not just use the headlights? Low beam will achieve what you want and make you more visible to others? I just leave mine on auto mode and the headlights switch on automatically around that time of day anyway. Using park lights at that time of day seems like a bit of an "old-school" Aussie habit - but I've always wondered why - at that time of night parking lights are barely visible from any distance so I don't get the point?

There are lots of circumstances and reasons I'd rather have just park lights than headlights - from the 2 hour "dusk" we get in North West QLD to plain old grey days. I think an option is maybe to use the rear "Fog" lamps - gotta do a drive behind Mrs to see if they're too bright on the road.

Failing all else, yeah just using headlights will be the way to go (prolly just leave em in "Auto").

In fact looking at how I use the lights in my Falcon over the last few weeks, I've realised that probably the main reason I use "Park" light position is to enable me to be able to flick headlights on and off to try and get D%$#heads who are in vehicles that are bloody INVISIBLE in low light to turn SOME damned lights on... By the time I need full headlights then even said MORONS also have their lights on.

Just watched a youtube of Trailhawk "bogged in sand" - was very impressive!! - the title is a misnomer, because its actually some people who have come to a standstill "bogged" to the belly - but after a think and a talk - and maybe decision to select "Sand / Mud" or lock the diff - they just drive out.

Rear (and front) fog lamps only available with headlights, so that rules that out!

Yeah I just leave 'em on auto, once less thing to think about..

Oh! - I didn't even consider that might be the case!! - thanks again for some more handy info on the wee beast Dave. Yeah, I'm gonna do the same then and just leave the lights selected to Auto too...

Damn! - had the bloody headlights flicking on and off driving on local range road thanks to overcast + intermittent tree cover over the road. Had to turn them off before cars ahead thought I was flashing them to stop or something!! No biggie to turn em off for that then set to Auto again in the open but still a small hassle.

I've gotta say again, DRL's on front are fine but I'd REALLY like conventional Park light setup to have tail lights too

EDIT: This is STILL pissing me off something fierce! - I'm eventually going to try and get a US model Headlight switch assy and see what happens - even if it ends up being upside down in the panel!. They don't seem to have one with separate front / rear fog lamp half buttons on the knob - but there's one with a single whole knob pushbutton - so I'd imagine that must turn on both front and rear. Ideally, the US switch assy will give normal OFF / PARK / ON / AUTO function as well as fog lights albeit all together. At worst it wont work so I'll put it back up on ebay.
