Last I heard there are major restrictions on engineering with the front bar and none on the rear

My understanding is that you are not allowed to exceed the manufactures design specifications.
I know that 'dangerous goods' etc are not allowed to be carried in such a manner that they could be impacted in an accident. BUT we see folks carrying jerry cans on the rear bars all the time.

I'm NOT an expert. But I would strongly suggest checking with the appropriate authorities before you get a nasty surprise.

I've had a similar jerry can on my last rear bar for a long time, just over 13 months. One rear end insurance claim. Plenty of exposure to the boys in blue as well without issue. Your point is not one lost on me and certainly appreciate the strong advice.

But I think everyone needs to do their own research for their own piece of mind Bruclet, that is just a given. Whether its for the lift you want, or your offset, where you place a light bar, the type of jerry cans, , labelling of fuel cans, the type of light bulb you use, its angle or even the fitment of fishing rod holder. There are plenty of regulations and ADRs to comply. In WA a rear bar Jerry holder is ok subject to it meeting ADRs and no over hang on left and right. But even if it wasnt I would have likely still got one as when I'm off camping the KKs fuel tank and consumption can all too easily leave you running out.

Then there is common sense when using your Jeep. I think its best to only carry my jerry cans when I need them and only fill them at the last station before going off-road or long stretches. Why carry the extra weight when not required.

Next in the planning is a snorkel, brush bars and rockers..

The silly thing is that as soon as we have changed wheels and tyres, as most of us have, we are breaking ADR's.

Simply keep a low profile and be sensible and all 'should' be ok.

regards
