A lot of WK's from around 2012+ had a knocking noise in the suspension that seemed to emanate from the rear and sounded like it could be coming from the front and/or rear.
FCA went through around 9 revisions of the rear shocks, (as that is where the noise was actually coming from), to try and find the source of the noise.
It turned out to be the shock mounting that was causing the noise not the shocks themselves.
I'd had one customer that we fitted 5 different sets of shocks to but the problem was still there until we fitted the new mounts and then it was fixed. It was all done under warranty back then, (early "ish" in 2013).
I'd have a chat with your local dealership to see of yours had the new mounts fitted before I went chasing my tail on swapping out parts to find the fault.

I have a new 75th Anniversary GC & it had a noise in the rear suspension, sounded like someone is underneath it with a rubber mallet hitting the chassis.
It occurred several times over 5km on a sealed country road after coming off a gravel stretch, has not occurred since, maybe it was just the rubbers settling in after 3000ks.
The vehicle only had 3 passengers onboard at the time & no mods.
Have had it on a hoist & cannot find anything amiss underneath, upto 6000ks now & no noise since, but heading back to that particular piece of road next week, see what happens this time.

Thanks for the info, Thats what I have started to realise with research. Its basically a design flaw with the shock mounting system within the chassis. I will check with the dealer if I have missed any recalls.

Yeah it seems almost one out of every 5 suffers some kind of suspension knock, lifted or OME doesnt seem to make much difference.

Last weekend I took my 2015 WK into the bush for a run. It has the Quadralift suspension. When in "off road 1 or 2 " their was a knock from the suspension over humps and rocks. But in standard setting it was silent.
As an old dirt bike rider I remember this same type of sound and feel from the bad old days of crappy Japanese suspension on my Suzuki TS250. It was "Topping Out". It was the sound of the suspension extending to its limits and making that horrible knocking sound. From memory we fixed it by adding extra oil to the forks. I can't believe it can happen in this century!
I haven't looked under the Jeep at the suspension (a job for tomorrow), but all I can imagine is that adjustable shocks would be the most likely cure where you can increase the "rebound " setting (which slows the extension of the shock). I am assuming that when raised the extra 2" or so leaves less allowable travel in the shocks as they are already at 3/4 of their travel. The internals haven't as much time to slow down their extension.
Has anyone looked at this or checked adjustable shocks on the Quadralift?
I bought the car only 6 months ago as a demo so I am still working things out. Not as simple as my Wrangler was!!!!

Hi, I have been swapping parts from a 2014 summit to a 2012
overland and found the top shock mount adaptor on the early
model was a 2 piece mount with a flat washer that fits inside
the mount against the body, the later car had a 1 piece
mount.
If you are handy with a welder you could weld the washer to
the rest of the adaptor, this is where the noise is coming from
Or you could take the mount off, clean it and fill with Sika-Flex
I hope this helps
Cheers John
