Once all this is checked they then refit to car, reset DPF life % & job complete. A friend had a similar problem to his Ford Kuga diesel - ford couldn't work it out so he took it to a DPF place who sorted it out over 2 days & billed him 3k - no new DPF required.

Where are you located?
Good info, TR Laredo. Do you know which place (presumably in Melbourne) did your friend's DPF?

These guys did the DPF repair on my mates Ford Kuga

http://www.masterautomobiles.com.au/

The repair cost included a new thermostat with housing assembly & a new inlet manifold as the old one was suffering from EGR induced carbon buildup.

Cheers

Thanks. My DPF is fine but always good to note where the 'fixers' are if/when needed.

Your mate obviously had a deeper problem, and if the thermostat for the Kuga is priced anything like those for a WK2 I'm not surprised at the bill. Probably in most cases the DPF would just need a clean off-car so long as there are no underlying issues like this.

My mates Kuga had been serviced at the same Ford dealer since new & when the DPF light came on they told him 8k for a new DPF & no guarantee it would fix the problem. The stupid part about it was the dash layout on the Kuga gives an engine water temperature reading in deg C - the readout was showing 60 deg C after 20 minutes of freeway driving which was 20 deg short of what the ecu was looking for to initiate the DPF regen. The dealership technicians/mechanics had NFI what caused the problem so my mate went back & gave them some feedback on how "real" techicians/mechanics fault find & fix things properly. That was 2 years ago & the car is still running fine.

Why not consider a DPF delete?

I just would not go to a dealer, Brakes a brake shop, tranny a tranny shop and same for DPF's there are quite a few specialist nowadays and source quality, well priced parts, experts in the field who do a good job as they don't want to see you back with a problem.
