Yes I would be looking at pump for sure.

What happened to mine was I got a new radiator. Cap was wrong one and what happened is Jeep was overheating. I heard gurgling- boiling? The top hose was all compressed in and had severely restricted water flow. The new cap resolved it.

A leak pressure test is also a cheap worthy test. Sadly East West core radiators are hard to visually inspect without a camera. But usually block the worst from bottom rows upwards.
After 20 years, I would take it out and get it cleaned.
99% of radiator flush chemicals these days are snake oil.
I personally have more faith in putting 6ltrs of cheap cleaning vinegar !
Air con condensers are a big culprit of air restriction even when brand new.
Inspect for damaged/ blocked fins.
The water jackets in the heads on the straight 6 4ltr are not big, and they are known to restrict flow from build up.
If you have a good clean drive way, drop your bash plate off, undo your bottom radiator hose, get it to warm hot.....
Then rev it hard to get the bottom hose to pop from the radiator.
This burst will soon show you how much crap it blasted out with the water.
Don't get scalded!
If its an auto, even the transmission can affect radiator temp if the trans is getting to hot.

It overheated only once but I was on a road I couldn't just pull over on so drove very slow for about 3ks. It did boil though, I haven't overheated it badly since. I'm thinking it's still an air lock in the heater core, as there's no heat and the heater pipes that go into the heater core are cool when motor is hot. If air in the system isn't the issue, then I'll have to look at the water pump as a possible issue.

I found to burp it properly after I replaced my radiator on my old 4.7 WJ I had to crank the heater, run it up to temp with bleed valve open and radiator cap off, it took ages to get rid of all the air bubbles, keep an eye on the level and keep topping it up before it suck more air in.
