I've ordered a replacement power steering pump from AliExpress. What could possibly go wrong with this?

I'm reasonably confident my existing one is at the end of its life. I figure I only have a year or two of life remaining in my WG, so a cheap replacement might see it through.

Besides, I couldn't find any for sale that I was confident were not Chinese clones.

Why do you say the WJ only has a year or two of life left?

It'll be interesting to see how the pump goes.

I took a video (no time to upload it, sorry). With the fan at full speed, as soon as I get a bit of steering effort on flat ground, the fan speed drops almost to a stand-still.

I'd skip the chinese replacement pump TBH. Wait until Gepco has one in stock in Germany and order from there.

It's nudging 300,000km and I typically do 20,000km per year. It's starting to use oil - a litre or so every 5000km. And, I had an overheating incident a few weeks ago.

The Chinese pump might not happen:
1/ The seller has 'fessed up that it doesn't come with the pulley mounting flange
2) Adrian's post above suggests I don't have a problem.

Wow thats using as much oil as a new toyota 4.5 v8 crd. Maybe a change of oil brand or viscosity may help.

You're in Brisbane, I'd give Steve a call and see if you can buy some of his product, works very well, can even stop a Landcruiser burning oil.

In reality one liter in 5000km isnt that bad, they all use some oil, thats what its there for. Splash it up the bore, scrape the oil ring over it to thin it down to a molecular thickness, fire the cylinder and most of the oil stays on the bore ,but a tiny bit gets burnt. There is a nasty hot fire burning all around it. One of the big reasons they can use a bit is the rings use a bit less pressure now days to try to minimise friction, wear obviously does the same thing over time,so the oil film is a bit thicker and a bit easier to burn a minute bit each time the cylinder fires.I have found with my CRD if i just keep the oil level on the dip stick at about half or a little under half it uses a bit less oil.Mines done over 300,000km and pulls like a train...my new inlet manifold with no swirl flaps and no EGR crap is very noticeable, some of these engines have done over 500,000km with no problems. I dont think you have much of oil problem, 1 liter in 10,000km is normal for a perfect engine.Mine probably uses the same amount ,so its probably only got another 200,000km left in too.
