If it does run lower then the other was probably on the way out as 1 or 2 deg wouldn't throw much at the other end..... never any leak when I pulled mine off and refitted it, thankgoodness.

Dunno drover, all three thermostats I have are 98 degrees, but the one out of the old Jeep does "leak" water through earlier which I am pleased about. It may even be on it's last legs, wait and see I guess. I'll carry a spare anyway just in case it causes me grief somewhere.

The actual standard coolant temp indicator in the dash didn't say anything is wrong...sits just under the midway mark...but to me 99c (211F) is way too hot as there is no buffer left when hitting hills and sees the engine temp scoot up to 110c (230F) too easily.

I am of the old school when 180F was the normal running temp...82c, engines now are "designed" to run hotter for sure with all the emission control stuff hanging off them...but running at near 212F standard water boiling point, does not sit comfortably with me at all. That coupled with consistently high oil temps...

lol...ok ok, my fat fingers didn't work so well refitting the o ring...it must have twisted a tad when I reinserted the housing...

So long as its nowhere near boiling I'm happy and thats the main thing, also remember the old stuff had larger tolerences and metals of days gone past, put the old coolant in these engines and they will seize up but then put an OAT coolant in the the old FJ45 and the systems would self destruct in about 2 days I reckon... so many things have changed .......................

Mines been good so today we went to the beach for a day out, well 200yds down the beach then parked up for picnic, Rainbow to DI still a wash out.....

Took the Jeep for a run up to Bribie today with new / old thermostat...temps were much much lower...both Coolant and oil.

At 100kmh coolant was in low 90's. oil in mid to high 90's. In stop go traffic oil would reach 100c but coolant stayed under 100c.
In the Burbs coolant went over 100c as did oil which is fine as I want to see the oil over 100c sometimes to burn out any moisture.

Bit of a change to before where coolant was always at least 105c plus, with oil at least 108c. Next we need to see what it does with the van in tow...2 weeks time.

But...when a DPF burn took place and the cooling fan reached Mach 1...the coolant temp dropped too much, dropping to high 70's with oil in mid 80's...once the fan speed dropped off the temp rose again to early 90's...happy with that.

But I will need to watch the temp now for opposite reasons as I don't want it to be running too cool!

So the other one wasn't opening all the way I would say, if mine starts to play up I will just cut the valve out ...... while waiting on Rockauto.....
