Is the whole housing and thermostat one? Prices seem to vary greatly using the Dayco part number. Western Filters were like $315 and Eziauto parts $239

You can twist the element out of all these housings but i cannot find an element with those metal tags that fits into the housing.
Things ive observed- the factory (mopar) housing has a slightly heavier base where the bolt holes are than the after markets ones and a slightly different casting on the housing around the base.
They are made in Italy by somone (Mahale ?)
After market ones all seem to uses similar housings but use different types of elements and seals.
Interestingly, the factory 88c opens at 88c and is fully open at 98c.
That might explain why sone of these thermostats have 98c stamped on them and others 88c

Sorry it is slightly off topic but I am about to embark on the valley hose, z hose, rear turbo hose and some other stuff but how far do you go? We have just over 100k km owned from new and serviced by me so is it really worth doing the thermostat and oil cooler?

Seems to be mixed about the oil cooler as seems the gasket is the issue but can't seem to find the gasket alone and is it actually easier to replace the whole oil filter housing bearing in mind cost? Aftermarket oil coolers are around $100 on eBay but expensive just for the gaskets. US parts stores only seem to have whole filter housing for sale.

Thermostat is good maintenance I know but car is running sweet so don't want to open a can of worms. Only flushed cooling system 5k ago.

I have kept a close eye on the hoses that I can see, used a cam to look at the bastard valley hose and when I changed my coolant at 100k my thermostat showed no signs of fatugue so nothing has been changed so far, no weeping or cracked hoses.... though I would like to get the valley done just for peace of mind ......... mines at 120K km.
Nothing to say the new oil cooler isn't one which will fail either gasket or bad casting....................... here's a local mob with the oil cooler gaskets http://www.midnightmods.com.au/zen-c...roducts_id=273
