Anybody who has had a well serviced WK GC diesel motor seize for no good reason ie not coolant hoses ,oil cooler failure etc should send a letter or notify Stellantis Australia! They are well aware of these failures as are the ACCC.There have been at least four failures in the last three weeks on various forums! There are a number of reasons why these maybe failing, not withstanding
that FCA US admitted via a US govt mandated worldwide safety recall in 2016 that to change oil viscosity immediately in all dealer stock of used and new engines world wide due to main bearing failures! Plus putting an engine on the Australian market when you couldnt even purchase the correct spec oil.! Many 2011s would have been running on the incorrect oi viscosity for five years! My friend is a barrister/solicitor and reckons he would have a field day with Stellantis in court!

Oddly the 2011 - 2013 don't cause too many issues...they say due to the 5 spd fitment means the engine revs higher giving a better oil feed.
The for ever quest for fuel economy and the fitment of the 8 spd with double overdrive has led to lower revs giving lower oil oil flow which can lead to oil starvation and seized bearings...

its interesting, talking to a few wreckers, they reckon 90% of the cars they have bought with blown motors have had some sort of overheating event prior to destruction.
Most of those appear to be turbo coolant hose or z hose related.
They reckon they have had the odd one just seize, one at 80,000km in mint condition and serviced regularly.
I tend to agree with their view, most ive seem in wreckers yards either had oil in the coolant tanks or blown hoses which tells you they were probably driven till they stopped!
Moral of the story , check your coolant levels regularly and definitely reduce the chance if engine damage!!

Something I have noticed over the last decade or so, with vehicles and caravans is the operator rarely does any checks and when something fails the reply is usually " But I get it serviced regularly " That even includes tyres, all reliance on the servicing mechanic to point out problems, no matter what the time gap, filling with fuel the only driver related job carried out ................
Even in the news lately a large number of folk are unaware of how to change a wheel ...................

Mine gets a weekly look over, especially in the places where danger lurks, I look for snail trails in red/white or black, it has paid off on a few occassions like last year when I found the faulty Tranny plug, if it had gone while towing I shudder to think what the damage would have been........

Totally agree with you. Many people these days do not even know where the bonnet latch is!!
Im like you, the bonnet goes up once a week, water, oil and fluids all checked.
I see anything out if the normal and then its lets find whats going on!
My kids are the same, showed them all what to check in their cars, but they just dont do it!! The “drive it till it stops” or “someone else will fix it” generation!!
I read recently about 70% of drivers gave no idea how to change a wheel!!

Pitty some of these diesel gc’s cant be revived!
There is a guy over here in Perth doing rebuilds of these engines, about $8k then you have fitting.
Not sure their re their build quality but if they get it right there is probably a market for them on any late model gc with a blown motor!
