mines on the RHS under the the dash with mic mounted almost same as steves.

my antenna is on my bull bar, but have seen them on side of roof, with antenna mount using short IGE one

I have the same. I don't have a head unit but the previous owner had it mounted on a bracket under the steering column between the drivers knees.

i have mine mounter on the overhead using the screws just behind the black security bubble and my anttener mounted on the roof reack rail using a z bracket that has been straigen out on one end work great because its in the middle of the car

I have mine mounted (uniden UH013) head unit under neath the center vents (96 XJ) and the main unit is mounted to the back of the center console with 6 DB gain co linear antenna fixed to the Bull Bar

GME TX4400 mounted in custom roof console, 6dB gain antena mounted on bull bar - before bull bar was on it was mounted through the top of the front bumper - worked OK but not as good as it does now sitting higher up.

Remember that if you go for a radio with a front mounted speaker (eg TX4400, ICOM400, etc)you can mount it flush in the dash or consol without the need for a remote speaker, which will save space.

HINT - to keep the mic lead out of the way I have used one of those little recoil string things that people use to carry security passes and lift access cards clipped to their belt. $5 from Officeworks and a really neat little trick!

i made mine into a remote face and mounted that in the garage remote space in the consol used low loss data cable between the face and main unit bolted under passenger seat (used bolts that the airbag module useto use ) antenna is gutter mounted on pasenger side just above the leading edge of the backdoor picks up my handheld over 8ks away with hills in between
